Learning Resources

Parents often ask us how they can support their child's learning at home.  We use a wide range of learning resources throughout the school including web-based resources and interactive games. Below are some of these links which you may find useful in supporting your child at home.

Take a look at our PE ideas link at the bottom of this page.

Teach Your Monster to Read
A free phonics and reading game site to help children learn to read.

Play a range of online phonics games, helping teach children the relationship between letters and sounds and develop the skills needed to read and write.

Take a look at Toucan, an award-winning subscription service which delivers fortnightly or monthly boxes of creative, science and craft activities to children aged 3 to 8 years old. Each box is themed and contains everything needed to keep children engaged for hours in an educational and creative way.

Steve Lenton - author
Many of the children will remember Steve Lenton, an ex-Havannah pupil, visiting our school recently and entertaining them with his illustrations. Take a look at Steve's website - by following the link above - which showcases his books and links on to his YouTube channel.

The Maths Factor
Unlock your child's maths confidence with Carol Vorderman's maths site for 4-11 year olds. Kids can watch her maths videos, play games and practise.

Read Write Inc.
The newly introduced phonics programme used in school. It contains a parent area with useful videos to help support your child's learning at home. During school closures, there are daily teaching sessions through the 'Ruth Miskin Training' YouTube channel.

Purple Mash

A curriculum-based learning resource website for KS1 through to KS4, providing inspirational lesson plans, schemes of work, assessment, interactive activities, resource packs, PowerPoints and teaching ideas. This website is currently free to all.

Times Table Rockstars
A carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice aimed at schools, families and tutors. A login is given in your child's planner.

Accelerated Reader
AR is part of the Renaissance Reading software package recently adopted by the school to encourage and improve reading, measure growth of the individual reader and to provide quality reading for all.  It allows for personalised learning targets to be set up and for progress to be easily monitored.

Your child will choose a book at their own level and read it at their own pace. When finished, they will take a short quiz on the computer. Passing the quiz is an indication that your child has understood the book. AR gives both children and teachers feedback based on the quiz results, which the teacher then uses to help your child set goals and direct ongoing reading practice. A login is given in your child's planner.
