Heroes Launch Week

This week the pupils at Havannah Primary School have been busy having fun launching their new exciting project! The ‘Havannah Heroes’ philosophy underpins the approach to teaching and learning at Havannah through a growth mindset theory. The overall aim of is to support children’s learning eg. being resilient, helping others, embracing challenges, effort, staying on task and be open to failure. In essence helping children learn how to learn.

To kick-start the week, the children had a special launch assembly followed by various other events taking place throughout the week.

During ‘Havannah Heroes’ Learning Week, all children had access to a range of activities which promoted the learning behaviours of our ‘Havannah Heroes’ characters, such as team building challenges and brain teasers!  To promote resilience and encourage our children to persevere with new challenges outside their usual experiences, we commissioned the ‘Warehouse Climbing Centre’ and their team of qualified climbing instructors to bring their climbing wall to school. All pupils in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 had the opportunity to climb and discuss their feelings and learning behaviours before and after the event! Year 1 and 2 pupils, along with those in the Early Years, had a session on an inflatable obstacle course to develop their skills of perseverance and risk-taking. The children have also participated in ‘A Good Sport’ workshops, circusology and ‘Kinball’. along with forest schools sessions.

Alongside many learning activities delivered by the class teacher as part of this special week, other activities included:

Kinball- a game of team work and supporting others;
‘A Good Sport’ workshops for Key Stage 2 children;
‘The Cube’;
Forest schools/Outdoor Learning;
Competitions to name the characters and design a villain;
Circusology workshops
